Cowmire Hall consists of a pele tower, which was built by Thomas Briggs, a wool merchant, in about 1500.

The building was enlarged with a modern front in about 1690 and today retains many of these original features.

There is a strong family link to Cowmire Hall. Oliver's parents, Roger and Diana, bought the farm in 1967, but Victoria's ancestor, Edward Stanley, married Ann Briggs of Cowmire Hall in 1591.
